BESCOM INITIATIVES IN PROMOTING ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE

2018

  • First Public EV Charging Station in the state of Karnataka
  • First Department to hire EVs in corporate fleet (5 EVs)
  • KERC notified Dedicated Tariff for EVCS LT-6(c) - Present tariff (2021) Rs. 5.00 per unit
  • Proposal to UDD to mandate EV Charging Points in MS Buildings / Master Plans.
  • 1 AC Charging Point at KERC
  • Proposal to DPAR to instruct all departments for 50% fleet conversion.
  • 2 DC Stations at Secretariat inaugurated by Hon’ble CM, GoK
  • Formation of Charging Infra Workgroup with all govt. departments as members chaired by BESCOM
  • BESCOM notified as State Nodal Agency

2019

  • Locations obtained from various departments for installing charging points
  • Branding Logo for EV Charging Stations was launched by Hon’ble CM GoK
  • Tender finalised for 12 DC Charging Stations & 100 AC Charging Points with support from Transport Department, GoK
  • Comprehensive roadmap on requirement of EVCS in Karnataka was submitted to GoK
  • Commissioning & Testing of 12 DC Charging Stations

2020

  • Commercial Operations of 12 DC Charging Stations (26 DC EVSEs) were commenced
  • MoUs executed with REIL & NTPC for installing 140 EVCS under FAME-2
  • ISUW Innovation Award 2020 for EVSE Deployment
  • Study of impact of EVCS on the grid with support from SSEF & ISGF
  • Commissioned a pilot on “SRTPV & Battery Energy Storage System integrated EV Charging Station with Dynamic Charging” with support of SSEF & CSTEP

2021

  • State Budget 2021 : Hon’ble CM GoK announced 1000 EV Charging Stations in the State under PPP model.
    BESCOM is assigned the task of preparing roadmap and bidding documents
  • ISUW Innovation Award 2021 for “SRTPV & Battery Energy Storage System integrated EV Charging Station with Dynamic Charging”
  • Invited Expression of Interest for installing EV Charging Points at various BESCOM Offices across 8 districts
  • Skoch Silver Award 2021 for “SRTPV & Battery Energy Storage System integrated EV Charging Station with Dynamic Charging”
  • Karnataka e-Mobility Workshop 2021.

Dedicated Mobile app for EV Charging:

BESCOM has also provided a dedicated mobile app “EV MITRA” (both Android and iOS) for EV users to utilize the charging services. The unique features of the application are User Profile Management, Charging Station View with information, Charging Process User Authorization (OTP/RFID), Booking History, Amenities at the station, Reservation of chargers.
